On your website original content is always preferred . At least that’s the coconscious. I’ve heard it argued either way. But at times there just isn’t enough time to pound it out. That’s where Private Label Rights (PLR) can bail us out. For a good overview of the many uses of PLR I invite you to read ” How to Use PLR Content to Blow Your Competition Out of the Water“. Enjoy the read.

Not an easy task though many will charge you a lot of money saying they’ll get you indexed quickly. Maybe they can but there is a free way and it’s much quicker.
How you ask…simply by using a Google Sitemap to get indexed quickly and I’m as guilty as the next for knowing of it but not using one. That is until I ran across an article entitled “Google Sitemaps Tutorial for WordPress - Get GoogleBot To Visit Your Site In Under 60 Seconds!” written by Andre Chaperon.
The plug-in Andre created was very easy to install and his video tutorial was easy to follow. I had the file downloaded, file extracted and uploaded on to my server in about two minutes. Then another two minutes in the admin area of the Blog to configure it and that was it. The final step, telling Google there’s another site to spider is painless too.
Thanks Andre for the fantastic plug-in and tutorial.
Without traffic, a website will struggle to fulfill its purpose, whether it is to inform, entertain or to sell. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques are important because a website or blog that is optimized is more likely to be found on Google, MSN or Yahoo. This in turn leads to more traffic. It is in the selection of these techniques that the differences between white and black hats can be seen.
In the old Western movies, the one wearing the white hat was seen as the good guy; the one wearing black was the bad guy (and the one wearing gray was the shifty guy who did whatever benefited him). In the world of SEO, these terms have significantly different meanings - although some people take the moral viewpoint that the white hat is still the ‘good guy’. On the other hand those who follow black hat techniques would say that being black hat is about competing with the search engines while white hat is about competing with your fellow webmasters.
White hat is the term used to describe techniques and methods that fully comply with the Search Engine guidelines (or as some like to say it is ‘doing everything Google tells you to do’). For example, writing original articles for your site would be considered white hat, while the use of software to generate thousands of pages of content automatically would be considered black hat.
Of course, nothing is that simple in reality and there are numerous areas that would be considered gray. For example, using some form of content generation software to modify PLR (private label rights) material to generate pages lies somewhere between these two extremes.
Admittedly, automatically generated black hat sites can generate some serious short-term profits. However, the search engines are getting smarter with their algorithms and when they discover the use of black hat techniques will generally de-index the pages of a site so that it won’t receive any more traffic from that source. In particular, if the software being used for automatic generation leaves telltale signs, known as a footprint, the process of de-indexing can be rapid. The other main problem is that many of these techniques generate content that the search engine spiders love, but are useless for humans (although it can make for a laugh to try to read some of it).
White hat techniques focus on developing content that is original and useful to both spiders and people. The main drawback with white hat strategies are that it takes longer to reach your desired goal, but the results can be significant when you reach there. The other nice thing is that there is much less chance that you will be de-indexed by the search engines and that your site, and any profits generated, will be around for the long haul.

When talking about trends in SEO, we are really talking about what Google is doing. Since Google is by far the leader in this field it is rare that another search engine innovates before Google.
Earlier this year, Google filed some new patents that are sort of interesting to read if you like that kind of stuff. To sum it up for the rest, Google’s new patents talk about using relevancy to determine whether a site is worthy of including in the search engine result pages (serp). Relevancy in Google’s mind is about how the words on your page compare to others site’s pages that are on the same topic.
So, let’s say your site is about politics. Specifically, republicans. Pages on your site will be compared to other sites that have similar pages about republican politics. And let’s say you have a bunch of pages talking about President Bush. Those pages probably should also mention the White House and possibly the Vice President, Congress, current affairs, etc. Because other sites are relating George Bush to those other key phrases, you’d better work them into your content also.
Using Relevancy to your advantage will help your site to be viewed as a possible authority site. Authority sites have a distinct advantage when it comes to higher placement in the search engine results. Often times, education and government pages are viewed as authority (still a debatable practice) because of their domain. It is very tough to beat these pages but it can be done if you provide better content.
Your goal is to have the search engines consider your site an authority by providing content that is not only original but also viewed as relevant when compared against the web as a whole. No longer will keyword stuffing a web page get you a high placement. The search engines are working towards a learning machine with the ability to recognize patterns and use those patterns to manipulate their output.
Even though Google was the first to file patent, you better believe that Yahoo! and MSN are not far behind. It will be interesting to see if all of Google’s patents will be accepted due to the wide ranging impact of the relevancy concept. It could be that the technique passes but the overall concept is rejected. Only time will tell on that subject, which could be a couple of years…
So, for 2007, build quality sites with relevant content and quality user design and you will have a web site that will stand the test of time, at least for 2007.
